- Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Nigeria
Engr. Professor Olusegun David Samuel is a leading expert in clean energy, thermofluid systems, and environmental engineering. He is the first Professor of Thermofluid and Renewable Energy at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Nigeria. His pioneering research includes work on low-carbon fuels, lithium batteries, biogas, solar, turbine systems, and AI-driven hybrid energy technologies. He also explores hydrogen production, corrosion, fuel cells, microchannels, multigeneration, and waste-to-energy innovations critical to sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
Professor Samuel currently serves as the Postgraduate Coordinator in Mechanical Engineering at FUPRE and is Principal Investigator for the AI-driven Solar-Biogas Hybrid Energy System project, jointly funded by Nigeria’s TETFund and South Africa’s NRF. His work has established a regional innovation hub supporting agricultural resilience and clean energy adoption.
In 2025, he received multiple Awards of Excellence from FUPRE and was ranked among Nigeria’s Top 500 Researchers by SCIVAL for three consecutive years. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and both B.Eng. and M.Eng. from the University of Ilorin. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications and nearly 4,000 citations, he ranks in the top 2% of energy scientists globally (Stanford University, 2023–2024).
He is a COREN-registered engineer and member of several professional associations. A dedicated researcher, mentor, and consultant, Professor Samuel continues to shape the future of clean energy through academic leadership and technological innovation across Africa and internationally.
